Sometimes people have ideas about what the role requires that get them into real trouble. This is never true. When your colleagues see you as endowed with special powers and abilities, enjoy their regard, but don\u2019t be fooled into imagining that you are fundamentally better than they.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7<span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A leader must actively, diligently, energetically seek out opinions that are different from her own.<\/span><\/b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"> Don\u2019t be subject to the \u201cCEO effect\u201d! Put your back into finding out what people really think, and consider all alternatives before promoting your own views.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7<span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A leader must connect with his followers.<\/span><\/b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"> It is when people feel emotionally connected to you, and you to them, that you all can move forward together to achieve your common goals. This doesn\u2019t mean getting sloppy or too personal, but it does mean maintaining genuine interest in and compassion for everyone in your organization \u2013 even the people you don\u2019t like.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7<span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A leader must study themself.<\/span><\/b><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"> Many of us, in our western culture with its focus on achievement, are moving too fast and hard to stop to think much about ourselves.
